Are You Ready To Buy A Retirement Home On The Big Island?

Ahhh, retirement. You’ve been dreaming about it for years. But now that its finally here, its time to make a few decisions that will impact your day to day life.

Retirement doesn’t have to mean slowing down. In fact, a great number of retirees are busier than ever.

What retirement does mean is changing up your environment to allow you to life the lifestyle you truly desire. And if shoveling snow or dealing with ever-lasting traffic jams isn’t a part of the picture, maybe Hawaii is.

You see, retirees choose the Big Island here in Hawaii for a number of reasons. Do you see yourself in any of these?

1. Comfortable weather year round

Hawaii’s climate has got to be the number one reason people move here and stay forever. The warm ocean water averages around 74 degrees. The temperatures you’ll find both day and night rarely vary more than a few degrees. And while you may have a house in a climate perfectly suited for shorts and a swim suit, in no time at all you can drive yourself to the middle of a rainy forest or a snowy mountain top to enjoy something altogether different.

The best part is you don’t have to stay in those climates; just visit whenever you choose! And when you’re friends back home are complaining about 120 degree temperatures in Phoenix, or -10 degree mornings in Chicago, you can happily grab your paddleboard and head out to the pond for the day.

2. Its “Hawaii Time”

Remember the feeling of always having to rush to the next event? You were late to work because of a traffic jam, rushing to the shopping mall to get the perfect outfit for dinner, and finally worrying how to make it to two parties because you couldn’t say no to either one. Rush, rush rush.

Stop. Retire to the Big Island and you’ll be on Hawaii time. Life is relaxed. Life is a little more slow paced. There’s very little traffic, and when you do sit in traffic its usually behind a bunch of mainlanders returning to the airport to head back home. Its slower here, and we like it that way.

3. The Big Island is still big enough to get away from it all

While the Big Island is still a small place to live, it is the biggest of all the Hawaiian islands, and has one of the most diverse climates in the world. You’ll find almost every climate zone here – if you want to get away and see something new, its only a short drive away.

4. Buying a home on the Big Island means you’ll have more guests than ever before

One of the top things people look forward to in retirement is spending more time with family and friends. But if you retire with them close by, or in a busy location with a lot of action, you’ll be lucky to see them more than a day at a time. Not so in Hawaii. You’ll have more visitors then you ever imagined. And when people come to visit, they come to relax. Which means more lunches around the pool, days lounging on the beach, and more morning walks to enjoy pleasant conversation.

5. You’ll be healthier than ever before

You can’t stay inside here because there is always something to do outside. Whether its walking on the beach, snorkeling in crystal clear waters, or playing a round of golf, its hard to stay inside when blue skies are calling to you. And when it comes to food, we have many organic farmers right here that would be happy to give you a tour. You’ll soon be an expert on tropical fruits, grass fed beef, and maybe even gardening your own vegetables. All that leads to a healthier you! We weren’t listed as one of the healthiest states to live in without a reason; and you’ll quickly understand why.

Are you convinced? Is Hawaii calling your name? If you’re ready to make the Big Island your home, I’d be happy to help you find a place to call home.
