Big Island Real Estate Spot Light: Puako

Retiring to Hawaii doesn’t have to be fantasy, but before you start looking at Big Island real estate, you’ll have to decide which areas appeal to you and what you want from your retirement years. When you first start working with a Big Island realtor, he or she will ask you what you like to do and what you envision for your ideal home. On the northwest side of the island, Puako is an area known as an affluent retirement community with plenty to offer residents.

A Pleasant Atmosphere

If you’ve been thinking about retiring in paradise, Big Island homes for sale in Puako are the ideal option. With a median age of just over 55, this area is a common choice for those who are looking to retire along the beach in Hawaii. Puako offers a moderate climate with low temperature averages in the upper 60s to low 70s and highs in the low to mid 80s most of the year. Rainy days are also few and far between with the most rain falling in January.  It’s a climate most people can only dream of!

Something to Do for Everyone

When you work with a Big Island realtor, you will quickly understand moving to this area won’t leave you with a lack of entertainment and things to do. Along with the typical surfing and other water-related activities you will find all along the Hawaiian coast line, Puako offers an array of other activities as well. Kayaking and sea adventures are always a big hit. There’s even a quilt shop that offers classes if you’ve always wanted to learn. The Hapuna Beach State Recreation Area is a relaxing place to soak up the sun or just enjoy some time in the beautiful outdoors. You won’t find a lovelier place to watch the sun sink below the horizon after a long day of fun in the sun and surf.

A Unique Culture

Like many of the other cities and towns on the west side of the Big Island, the area is rich in history that dates back thousands of years or more. The Puako petroglyphs are an astonishing collection of ancient stone carvings that covers 233 acres and contains more than 3,000 carvings that reflect life before written history. The Hokuloa Church, which can be found near the entrance to Puako, was built in 1859. Services are still held here every Sunday at 9 a.m.

There are many Puako homes for sale, which can make it difficult to find just the right one to give you the rest and tranquility you’re looking for. Puako is the definition of paradise and offers retirees and other prospective residents with a virtually perfect atmosphere, along with a brilliant mixture of modern amenities and unique cultural experiences.
