The Hawaii Food & Wine Festival Makes Life on the Big Island Sweet (and Savory)

Foodies, gather ‘round. If you need another reason to begin your new life on the Big Island, I’ve got a great one for you!

In less than two weeks, we’ll be kicking off the 4th annual Hawaii Food & Wine Festival. This weeklong culinary extravaganza brings together master chefs, culinary personalities, sommeliers, and wine and spirit producers from around the world to the islands of Hawaii for a series of high-profile epicurean events celebrating good food and drink…aloha-style.

And for the first time, the Big Island is playing a part in this annual festival! A big part, in fact. If you’re looking for things to do on the Big Island, add this event to your calendar immediately.

On August 29 at 6:00 p.m., the Waikoloa Resort on the Big Island will host the Hawaii Food & Wine Festival’s inaugural event: a magical six-course meal and gala called “Aloha ‘Aina, Aloha Kai” (“Lover of the Land, Lover of the Sea”).

This meal in celebration of Hawaiian cuisine will come to life at the hands of culinary virtuosos like Chefs Marcel Vigneron and Sheldon Simeon of Top Chef, plus several talents from resorts and restaurants on the Big Island and beyond.

Regular admittance and dinner is $250 a person (tickets found here). Or, snag VIP tickets for $500 a person, which adds to your evening preferred seating, a cocktail & pupus (appetizer) reception, and a “meet and greet” with the chefs.

After the Big Island’s big sendoff, each day of the Festival, which continues through September 7, will bring a different signature culinary or wine event on one of the Hawaiian Islands.

Hawaii may not be included among the world’s go-to “food destinations” like Italy, Paris, and New York, but it has a culinary footprint that can compete with any of these! And food is a huge part of life on the Big Island.

We’re blessed with an abundance of fresh seafood and fertile growing regions that produce sweet fruits (like the iconic pineapple, of course), crisp vegetables, and world-famous coffees. Not to mention delicious, local, grass-fed beef from our cattle ranches.
